LAY OF THE LAND (AND OTHER SUCH MYTHS)
LONDON ART FAIR | 17 – 22 JANUARY 2017
STAND P31 ART PROJECTS
Chiara Williams Contemporary Art was delighted to grant Victoria Lucas the 2016 SOLO Award. This was the first time in the 5-year history of the prize that the winning artist had recently received representation, and therefore marked a change from the usual one-to-one project development dynamic. In the event, the experience of collaborating closely with both Mark Devereux Projects and Victoria Lucas was very rewarding. An openness, transparency and generosity on all sides gave the project added rigour and allowed for a greater pool of resources and networks for us to mutually tap into. Co-curating the solo presentation, Lay of the land (and other such myths), at London Art Fair in January 2017 was a creative and fulfilling shared endeavour. The positive feedback received for Victoria’s work during the fair was overwhelming and it was a pleasure to have her at my side as we engaged visitors and welcomed numerous tours. In particular I am very proud that the SOLO Award has been such an effective launch pad for Victoria’s new work ahead of its UK tour, and I congratulate both Mark and Victoria on their enterprise in managing to capitalise on this opportunity to create such an ambitious, beautiful and visionary project.
